Want to Be Happier? The Undeniable Connection Between Faith and Happiness (Marriage Unhindered)

What if the secret to happiness isn’t money, success, or popularity, but something much simpler? On Marriage Unhindered, Doug Hinderer shares compelling research suggesting that young men who practice their faith are happier, less lonely, and more fulfilled.

According to research Doug highlights from the Institute for Family Studies, 41% of religious young men consider themselves very happy, compared to just 24% of secular men. Religious men are also three times as likely to be married, with 27% married compared to just 9% of their secular peers.

The benefits extend beyond marriage. Among young men who attend religious services weekly, 68% report having at least three close friends, compared to 52% of those who rarely attend. Religious young men also report lower rates of loneliness.

But Doug believes these findings reveal something deeper about God’s design for our lives.

“God created us, right? He knows what will make us happy, what will bring us fulfillment, what will complete us.”

For Doug, the message is simple: “Happiness is the result of holiness.”

He points to St. Paul, who learned to remain content through abundance and hardship alike. True Christian joy doesn’t depend on perfect circumstances but on a life rooted in God.

The takeaway? Faith isn’t a guarantee against suffering, but growing in holiness can lead us toward the lasting joy for which God created us.
