“What if I Get Distracted in Adoration?” (The Inner Life with Patrick Conley)

🕊️ “Struggling in Adoration? Let’s Talk About It”

Ever found yourself in Adoration, trying to focus, but your mind either goes totally blank or starts wandering to your to-do list? Rosemary from New Jersey called in with exactly that issue, feeling a bit discouraged and wondering if she’s doing something wrong.

Fr. Rob Kroll, a Jesuit priest who really knows his stuff about spiritual formation, jumped in to reassure her (and all of us). He reminded us that just showing up and sitting before Jesus in the Eucharist is already a big win. It’s not about having deep, mystical experiences every time. Sometimes, just being there—sitting in that holy presence—is enough.

Fr. Kroll shared a simple tip: when you’re feeling distracted, try repeating the name of Jesus. It’s a way to bring your focus back to Him, even when your mind is all over the place. And remember, it’s totally okay if your time feels a bit empty or uneventful. As a farmer once said to St. John Vianney, “I look at the good God, and He looks at me.” That’s the heart of Adoration—just being there with Him, even if it feels simple or quiet. 🙏✨
