In this touching podcast episode of Father Simon Says, Fr. Richard Simon talks with Jane, a brave listener who opens up about her past and the pain she’s been carrying. Jane, now a mom of five (two are adopted) and a proud grandma of ten, shares how, before she got married, she had four abortions. Although she’s gone to confession for them, she’s still struggling with guilt and some confusion about whether she’s excommunicated from the Church. It’s a heavy burden for her to carry.
Fr. Simon quickly reassures her that she isn’t excommunicated. He explains that excommunication only applies if someone knew at the time that abortion would formally separate them from the Church, and since Jane didn’t fully understand this, she’s in the clear. Plus, the important thing is, she’s confessed and been forgiven by God 🙏.
Then, Fr. Simon begins leading Jane through a powerful prayer to help her heal. He asks her to close her eyes and imagine those four children, and then picture Jesus standing in front of her. He encourages her to hand those children over to Jesus, trusting that He, along with the Blessed Mother, will take care of them until she can be with them again in Heaven 💔.
Takeaway: No matter what we’ve done, God’s mercy is bigger than our sins. If you’re struggling with a tough past, just know that God’s always ready to forgive and bring you peace—He’s not holding grudges, He’s holding out His arms 🌟.
