How Can I Improve My Prayer Routine? (The Inner Life with Patrick Conley)

Do you struggle with dryness in prayer? Perhaps you get frustrated with yourself because you feel like no matter how hard you try, you can’t connect closer to God.

Patrick Conley chats with Fr. Bobby Blood about this. You’ll be encouraged by his advice!

Pray Through the Drought 🌵: Fr. Bobby reminds us that sometimes prayer just feels dry. But even in those seasons, we pray because God deserves our love and devotion, whether we’re feeling it or not. He says God delights in our efforts, even when they’re not “Instagram-perfect.”

Scriptures as Soul Fuel 📖: Fr. Bobby’s advice? Lean on the Bible. He mentions how relatable the stories are, especially when life feels upside down. The Gospels and the Psalms, in particular, can help you say, “I feel that!” and remind us that God never leaves us hanging.

Create a Sacred Space: Caller Mary shares her trick of having a peaceful spot to pray. Fr. Bobby totally backs this, suggesting we set up a designated prayer zone: (could be as simple as a chair or a cozy corner), so that every time we’re there, we know it’s time to focus on God.

Posture Matters: Fr. Bobby suggests even our body language in prayer matters! Kneeling when you’re begging for help, or sitting in a relaxed, open way when you’re just there to listen; it all sets the tone for how we approach God.

Fr. Bobby’s bottom line? Prayer doesn’t have to be fireworks every time. Even in the simplicity, even in silence, there’s profound beauty. It’s all about showing up, being real, and creating holy habits that bring us closer to Him.
