War on Christmas? D.C. Metro Blocks Catholic Christmas Ads

Tis the season … for religious discrimination? That’s what the Archdiocese of Washington is alleging, as the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) rejected its advertisements for their “Find The Perfect Gift” initiative.

Despite allowing advertisements for yoga studios and the Salvation Army in the past, the WMATA did not allow the Archdiocese’s advertising because the Christmas ad included a nativity scene silhouette, and was thus ‘promoting religion.’ The Archdiocese of Washington has filed a lawsuit to challenge the WMATA’s guidelines.

In today’s episode, Susan Timoney, Secretary for Pastoral Ministry and Social Concerns at the Archdiocese of Washington, joins Sheila Liaugminas on A Closer Look to discuss the “Find the Perfect Gift” initiative and the ongoing lawsuit.
