May the 4th be with you!

If you’re a fan of the Star Wars franchise, you know the common expression, “May the Force be with you.” Did you know that today is Star Wars Day? It all stems from a pun that Star Wars fans began saying on May 4th:

“May the Fourth be with you!”

(And if you’re a nerdy Catholic millennial like me, you might respond, “And with your spirit!” But, that’s a story for another day.)

In honor of Star Wars Day, here’s a question that might stump you: what do Star Wars and The Joe Sikorra Show have in common?

Luke Skywalker! Or, as he’s known in real life, Mark Hamill. Joe Sikorra, host of The Joe Sikorra Show on Relevant Radio®, once met Hamill. Here’s how it happened:

Several years ago, Sikorra’s son, John, asked to meet Luke Skywalker. John and his brother were both born with juvenile Batten Disease, a fatal neurodegenerative disease. Hamill graciously agreed to make John’s dream of meeting Luke Skywalker come true, spending time with the family, answering all of his questions, and showing a great deal of patience and compassion. Hamill’s generosity meant a lot to the Sikorra family; you can read more about that here.

Just a couple of days ago, Mark Hamill tweeted about meeting the Sikorra family, and his new book, Defying Gravity: How choosing joy lifted my family from death to life, in which Sikorra talks about how his family found hope and love when faced with the illness and death of their son.

Enter now for a chance to win a copy of Joe Sikorra’s new book, Defying Gravity (hurry, this offer ends at 8pm!). All profits from the book go to research for Batten Disease.
