The support we saw Bernie Sanders receive in the 2016 Democratic primaries may have been considered a fluke, but the recent nomination and buzz surrounding the Congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez may show a shift in the country’s attitude, especially among young people.

Ocasio-Cortez is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, and her win of the Democratic primary in New York’s 14th District shows the country’s increasing acceptance of a political party with socialist values. But is socialism compatible with Catholic Social Teaching?
