Demons use memories against you—here’s how to stop them

In this age of technology, many people worry that someone is watching or listening. But do you know that the devil is always watching? “Hacking” into your spiritual life, so to speak?

The devil and his fallen angels are constantly watching you, causing trouble, and tempting you to walk away from God.

“They don’t sleep; they don’t take breaks; they don’t clock out; they don’t go on maternity leave; they don’t take vacations. They’re always on; they’re always watching. And here’s the kicker: they have nothing else to do,” explained Patrick Madrid, host of The Patrick Madrid Show on Relevant Radio®.

While they can’t know what you are thinking, they can see your imagination.

“That image in your mind is a phantasm, and we have to use these because this is how we gain understanding and knowledge and so forth. We are constantly imagining things. Well, one thing to be careful of is your past sins are also stored in the hard drive and the memories and mental images and things of those past sins need to be controlled because if you don’t control them and you wind up thinking about them and kind of turning them over in your mind and reimagining and all those things, the devils can see that.”

They use that knowledge to gain a better idea of how to tempt you and what memories to use against you.

How do we know this to be true? Look no further than St. Thomas Aquinas’ Summa Theologica. In it, he writes a Treatise on the Angels and describes how demons work against you and me.

But there’s a way to protect your mind from this spiritual attack, and it’s important that you work to do so. Patrick says, “Deprive them of that information, shut them down. Don’t give them any extra information that they can try to use against you, because they will.”

The key to overcoming their ability to see your mental pictures is to ask your Guardian Angel for protection. Pray that God would help you to purify your imagination and remove the memories of past sins that resurface again and again in your thoughts.

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle!
