• Optional Memorial of St. Anthony Mary Claret, 1807-1870; born in Spain, studied for priesthood, intending to become a Jesuit, but ill health forced him to serve as a secular priest; in 1849, he founded the Claretians and the Claretian nuns; served as archbishop of Santiago de Cuba 1850-1857; returned to the court of Queen Isabella II as confessor; participated in the First Vatican Council; died in a Cistercian monastery in southern France
