The Faith Explained – Where is Purgatory in the Bible?

Have you ever been asked by a non-Catholic as to where Purgatory is mentioned in the Bible? Maybe you felt flustered and didn’t know how to respond.

In this episode of The Faith Explained, Cale Clarke discusses the relationship between a passage from 1 Corinthians Chapter 3 and the concept of Purgatory. Cale explores how the verse, which talks about testing one’s work through fire and being saved as through fire, suggests purification after death. Cale addresses counterarguments from Protestants and explains that while the term “Purgatory” may not be explicitly mentioned, the concept of purification is still present in the text.  Purgatory is a state where individuals are cleansed and made holier before entering heaven, and it’s not a second chance after death but a process of final purification.

This episode is a great reminder that we are all called to be saints and that we should strive for holiness while on earth so that we don’t need Purgatory after death.
