Are You Catholic Because of Jesus? (The Patrick Madrid Show)

Anthony called into The Patrick Madrid Show feeling completely overwhelmed. The recent Vatican decisions had him questioning his faith and contemplating leaving the Church. He was seeking guidance and perspective.

The Boat Analogy: Patrick Madrid offered an insightful analogy, likening Anthony’s situation to the apostles in a storm at sea, as depicted in the Gospels. Despite the chaos and their fear of perishing, Jesus, who was with them, calmed the storm.

The Message of Hope: Patrick emphasized the importance of keeping faith in Jesus. He reassured Anthony that being Catholic is about following Jesus and His teachings.

Avoiding the Outrage Machine: Patrick cautioned against getting swept up in the outrage culture that criticizes Church leaders. He pointed out that this often serves the interests of those who profit from sensationalism, rather than fostering genuine faith.

Prayer and Persistence: Patrick highlighted the power of prayer and trusting Jesus, rather than attempting to ‘fix’ the Church through demonstrations or petitions. He stressed that the Church isn’t a democracy and that its direction is guided by Jesus through its appointed leaders.

Staying Steadfast: Emphasizing the importance of staying with the Church, Patrick encouraged Anthony to find strength in Jesus and remain committed to his faith.

Patrick reassured Anthony that everything would be fine in the end as long as he stayed with Jesus. He encouraged Anthony to find hope in the good priests and faithful people within the Church, reminding him that our hope is in Jesus.
