When Ann joined The Mark Swartzberg Show, she shared a moving testimony of how God used a pilgrimage to Medjugorje to bring about a profound conversion in her own heart.
A lifelong Catholic with a deep faith, Ann originally believed the trip was meant for her son. Yet just weeks before departing, she sensed God speaking to her interiorly: “I have something for you, Ann.” She wondered what more she could possibly need. The answer would unfold throughout the pilgrimage.
From the moment she arrived, Ann experienced signs of God’s loving presence. One particularly memorable moment came when her son began noticing heart-shaped stones scattered throughout their journey. What started as a curious observation became a recurring symbol, with dozens of heart-shaped stones appearing along their path, reminding Ann of God’s desire to soften and transform her heart.
The greatest gift, however, was not a sign but a deeper conversion. For years, Ann had struggled with resentment over the heavy cross of her husband’s chronic illness. She admitted that part of her wanted to escape the suffering and make life easier. In prayer, she felt a powerful invitation from Jesus and Mary to stop resisting the cross and instead embrace it with trust and joy.
As Ann surrendered her anger and frustration, she discovered a new closeness with Christ. Rather than carrying her burdens alone, she learned to rest in the companionship of Jesus and Our Blessed Mother. The transformation was so evident that her husband noticed it immediately. Through the grace Ann received, he too experienced a renewed and deeper relationship with God.
Mark reflected on the beauty of her witness, reminding listeners that hope is not found by avoiding the cross but by embracing it with Christ. In doing so, we discover just how near our crucified Lord truly is.
