• Saint of the Day: St. Gregory Barbarigo, 1625-1697; he came from a distinguished Venetian family, embraced a diplomatic career, and then became a priest; he was consecrated as the first bishop of Bergamo; later, he was elevated to the rank of cardinal, and given authority over the diocese of Padua; he guided his flock with pastoralwisdom and deep understanding; St. Gregory Barbarigo worked unceasingly in carrying out the reforms set forth by the Council of Trent; at Padua, he added a library and a printing press
