Pope Leo XIV calls for prayers as wildfires devastate parts of Europe

As wildfires continue to ravage parts of France and Spain, Pope Leo XIV is calling on Catholics around the world to pray for those affected by the growing disaster.

Following the Angelus in Castel Gandolfo, the Holy Father expressed his closeness to the victims of the fires, which have forced widespread evacuations and left emergency crews working around the clock to protect lives and property.

Pope Leo asked the faithful to remember everyone impacted by the crisis, especially those who have lost homes, been displaced, or are facing uncertainty as the fires continue to spread. He also offered prayers for the firefighters, medical personnel, and other first responders whose tireless efforts have been critical in battling the blazes.

The fires have been fueled by prolonged drought, extreme heat, and strong winds, creating dangerous conditions across several regions. As emergency crews continue their work, many communities remain under threat, with thousands of residents forced to flee their homes.

Relevant Radio joins Pope Leo in praying for all those affected by these devastating wildfires. We pray for the safety of families forced to evacuate, for those grieving losses, and for the protection and strength of the firefighters and emergency personnel risking their lives to serve others. We also ask the Lord to bring favorable weather conditions that will help contain the fires and allow displaced families to return home safely.

In moments of natural disaster, the Holy Father’s appeal serves as a reminder that the Church stands in solidarity with those who suffer. Through prayer, charity, and concern for our neighbors, Catholics are invited to accompany the victims of these fires and support the courageous men and women working to bring the crisis under control.
