Pope Leo XIV is calling for artificial intelligence to be developed with the good of the human person at its center, encouraging those working with emerging technologies to use them in service of peace, human dignity and the common good.

The Holy Father shared this message with participants in the inaugural AI4Peace Global Biennial Symposium & International Conference at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome. The conference brings together experts and researchers to consider how AI can assist with conflict prevention, peacebuilding, human rights and global governance.

In a message read by Fr. Andrea Ciucci, Chancellor of the Pontifical Academy for Life, Pope Leo offered his prayers and good wishes for the symposium. He expressed his hope that its work would encourage a broader commitment to ensuring technological innovation serves the common good.

The Pope emphasized that technical advancement alone is not enough. In a world troubled by war and division, the development of AI must also be shaped by wisdom and charity, with respect for the dignity of every human person.

Pope Leo connected this responsibility to his Encyclical Magnifica humanitas, which presents God’s merciful plan as a guide for Christians navigating the digital age. Technological progress, therefore, should remain rooted in a proper understanding of the human person and his relationship with God and others.

The Holy Father also encouraged participants to consider how artificial intelligence might support dialogue, reconciliation and solidarity among nations. When directed toward the good of others, he said, technological innovation can become an instrument for peace rather than another source of division.

Pope Leo concluded by assuring participants of his prayers that their work would produce lasting fruit.
