Finding Christ Behind Bars (The Patrick Madrid Show)

Can God bring healing from a broken marriage, years of imprisonment, and deep regret? One caller’s testimony on The Patrick Madrid Show reminds us that even our greatest suffering can become a path back to Christ.

Mike from Pittsburgh called Patrick Madrid after spending years listening to Relevant Radio while incarcerated. Now living in a halfway house, he shared the heartbreak of losing his marriage of 36 years and having no contact with his three adult children.

Mike initially questioned whether his former wife’s romantic involvement during their annulment process constituted adultery.

Patrick explained that the Church presumes a marriage valid until a declaration of nullity is granted. However, he gently encouraged Mike not to dwell on circumstances he couldn’t verify or control.

Instead, Patrick invited him to focus on his own spiritual healing.

Mike acknowledged his responsibility for the pain his family experienced. Despite their estrangement, he continues praying fervently for their return to the Catholic Faith.

Patrick pointed to Romans 6:23, explaining how sin can destroy marriages, families, and relationships. Yet suffering, when united to Christ, can become purifying.

Mike revealed that prayer has sustained him throughout his imprisonment since 2015.

“It’s through our Lord and prayer that’s got me through every day,” he shared.

Although he admitted having strayed severely from his faith, Mike described returning to Christ in a profound way.

His testimony reminds us that no matter how far we’ve fallen, God’s mercy invites us to begin again.
