How Strengthening Your Faith Can Strengthen Your Family

Part of Relevant Radio®’s mission is to help people bridge the gap between faith and everyday life. And why is that? Because making Jesus and His Church a part of everyday life makes life better. It brings meaning and purpose to our joys and struggles, it strengthens our relationship with the Creator, and strengthens our families.

During our pledge drive this week, a listener named Annie called to share what a difference it has made for her family to bring the faith into their everyday life, and the role that Relevant Radio has played in strengthening their family. Annie said:

“I just wanted to give witness as a Millennial. My husband and I have been married for almost nine years, and when we first got married I was a very lukewarm Catholic. Over the years I have been realizing that I have been benefiting so much from his holiness. He has helped me return to the faith wholeheartedly and has been just great.

We have 4 young children, and within the last year we have made an active choice to have the sacraments be the center of our family life. We try to go to daily Mass, regular Confession, and we take our kids along,

Relevant Radio  – we’ve just become so reliant on it, not just for learning more about our faith, but to fall in love with it. Whether it’s your show and learning more about apologetics, or Father Simon’s great analysis of Scripture, and we love Father Matthew Spencer in the evenings. It’s just been the icing on the cake of our spiritual life in more ways than one. I just wanted to give witness to that.

Our oldest is 6 and he knows that when we have the radio on, ‘Oh you have Patrick Madrid on!’ or ‘Oh, you’ve got Father Simon on!’ He wants to listen, and I’m sure he’ll have all kinds of questions as he gets older, but we’ve started listening to the replays sometimes in the evenings instead of watching TV or something, and it’s just been great for our whole family life.

I think the biggest benefit that I get (and not to be negative about my generation) but I think I’m a very selfish person, and it’s hard for me to just jump into the day with four young kids. It’s easy to just feel bad for yourself, a lot. With your little sacrifices it can just feel like you’re giving up everything, and it can be really difficult.

But it takes five minutes of having Relevant Radio on, and you realize it’s not just about you. You’re part of something so big, you’re part of the Church, and every little sacrifice matters. It takes a while to get yourself out of yourself … and for me that has been the biggest benefit, just to really embrace motherhood and embrace being a spouse. I love it, and I love it so much more than I ever have before.”
