What would you do if you won the lottery? Many say that if they won the lottery they would give at least half to the Church and the poor, and live on the rest. Or maybe you think that if you were a famous actor or musician you wouldn’t need a flashy lifestyle. You would use your talent and success to glorify God.

But God isn’t asking you to spend your time thinking of what you would do with money, time, or talent that you don’t have. That was the message of a recent Glen’s Story Corner. Morning Air® co-host Glen Lewerenz told the story of two country boys talking. One asked, “Billy Bob, if you had $1 million would you give me half?”

Billy Bob replied, “Leroy, you know I would.” So Leroy questions again, “If you had $1,000 would you give me $500?”

Billy Bob said, “Leroy, we’ve been friends for 20 years. You know I’d give you $500 if I had $1,000.” So Leroy scratched his chin and asked, “If you had two hogs would you give me one?”

Billy Bob shouted loudly, “That’s not fair! You know I have two hogs!”

Sound familiar? It’s easy to imagine being generous with what we don’t have, but when we look at what we actually do have we can be reluctant to part with it. This Giving Tuesday is a great time to prayerfully meditate on 2 Corinthians 9:7, which tells us, Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
